For too long, Africa’s story has been told by outsiders. While external perspectives are valuable, they often miss the depth, nuance, and authenticity that only those who live and breathe Africa can capture. As a seasoned sports photographer, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles that African photographers face in gaining access to global platforms to share their work. There is a glaring gap—African photographers lack the opportunities, resources, and networks to contribute to how Africa is visually represented. This is where Tukio Images comes in.
Tukio Images is more than just a photography marketplace. It is a movement, a mission, and a vision to reshape the narrative of Africa through the lenses of those who call it home. Our goal is simple: to help the world see Africa differently.
Why Tukio Images?
Tukio, derived from the Swahili word for “event” or “happening,” is a platform designed to empower African photographers by giving them the space to share their unique perspectives of our continent. From editorial pieces to sports moments and breaking news, Tukio Images will be a hub where the world can access authentic, high-quality visuals captured by African talent.
This project is deeply personal to me. I have spent years documenting sports, culture, and everyday life, but I have also seen the frustration of talented photographers being overlooked simply because they lack access to international agencies. The world is often fed a single, monolithic view of Africa—one that highlights struggles while ignoring the beauty, resilience, and dynamism that define us. Tukio Images aims to change this by ensuring that African photographers have a voice in how Africa is seen.
What We Need & How You Can Help
To launch Tukio Images, we need an initial operational and business setup boost of $2,500 – $3,000. This will cover:
- Website and Platform Development – Creating a user-friendly, secure online marketplace.
- Licensing and Legal Frameworks – Ensuring photographers retain rights to their work while making sales globally.
- Marketing and Outreach – Attracting photographers and buyers to the platform.
- Operational Costs – Basic logistics, administration, and digital tools to get started.
We are calling on well-wishers, investors, and photography enthusiasts to help make this vision a reality. Donations can be made through PayPal: Donate Here.
However, funding alone is not enough. We also need:
- Partnerships – Collaboration with media houses, agencies, and content platforms that will source images from Tukio.
- Equipment – Cameras, lenses, and editing tools for photographers who lack access to quality gear.
- Mentorship – Experts who can guide young African photographers in developing their skills and navigating the business of photography.

Every contribution, big or small, is a step toward giving African photographers the platform they deserve. We invite you to be part of this journey—whether through donations, partnerships, mentorship, or simply spreading the word.
